Description:
Asian Americans United exists so that people of Asian ancestry in Philadelphia exercise leadership to build their communities and unite to challenge oppression.

"I have always believed that real, sustained change occured through collective action, not as a result necessarily of a single individual. So in 1985, we started to have small gatherings of like minded individuals with an eye to creating an organization which would work to build a broad base to support Asian American communities in Philadelphia. We were far from a "group without a cause" - we were actually a group with too many causes to address at once and a need to define a vision."

"Over the years, as AAU's programs have expanded and its membership has grown, it is striking that the initial principles around which we organized still hold. We still spend countless hours analyzing how and why we do our work, but it's those long discussions that I think help make our work meaningful and sustained."
