Description:
The Boulder Asian Pacific Alliance (BAPA) is a grassroots coalition of representatives from the diverse Asian Pacific populations, the second largest minority group in the city and county of Boulder. We came together in early 1994 in order to become a more active part of the Boulder community and to impact social change.
BAPA represents Hmong, Laotian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Malaysian, Indian, Thai, Nepalese and other groups of Asian Pacific background.
The rapidly growing Asian Pacific population in the city and county of Boulder differs in language, customs and recency of immigration. Our most recent arrivals are Tibetans, mainland Chinese and Hmong.
The differences among the Asian Pacific communities separate and isolate us from each other as well as from the larger Boulder community. We are not seen as viable members of the community and are largely invisible. We are often not included in the policy-making decisions that affect our communities. The Alliance is actively working to integrate the Asian Pacific population into the larger Boulder community.
